Jan Kaláb

Jan Kaláb (Prague, Czechia, 1978) is one of the most prominent contemporary artists on the Czech scene and one of the pioneers of graffiti and urban art in Prague during the 1990s. Initially known under the name “Cakes”, Kaláb evolved from street art towards a multidisciplinary practice encompassing painting, sculpture, installation, and digital media.

His work focuses on the relationship between colour, form, and spatial perception through organic and geometric compositions that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, his work is held in institutional collections including the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes in Rio de Janeiro, and the DEJI Art Museum in China, as well as major private collections such as Dior and Tiffany & Co. He has exhibited internationally in cities including New York, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai, and Taipei.
