Jose Carlos Naranjo
José Carlos Naranjo (Villamartín, Cádiz, 1983) is a painter trained at the University of Seville, where he completed an MA in Art, Idea and Production. His practice is structured around the construction of images from photographic references, approaching painting as a space of assembly where framing, light and fragment play a central role.
Although a significant part of his work has been developed within the field of figuration, his research also incorporates lines of work in which the image shifts towards more open approaches, generating tensions between representation and abstraction. Light and contrast function as structural elements that organise the composition.
He has received numerous recognitions, including the BMW Painting Prize, the Reina Sofía Painting and Sculpture Prize and the Figurativas Prize. His work is included in collections such as CAC Málaga and BMW Iberia, and has been exhibited in institutions and galleries in Spain and the United Kingdom.
